No 1 The Mansions Review

A short while ago, Keri and I were in London for a conference and instead of staying in a hotel, we decided to try out a serviced apartment. We were invited to stay at No 1, The Mansions, a luxury serviced apartment building in Kensington, London.

No 1, The Mansions is owned by the Mansley Group – a family owned business, they have serviced apartments in three locations in London along with Cheltenham, Edinburgh and Inverness.

No 1 The Mansions is found in Earl’s Court, just a short walk away from the tube station. The property was built in the late 18th Century and is a typical elegant townhouse like those you see all across the city. Inside, the building contains a range of different apartment types, from small studios to large four bed, three bath suites.

After making the short walk from Earl’s Court tube station, we arrived in the building’s impressive lobby space – the 19th Century grandeur of the building was present in the space’s high ceilings, heavy wooden doors and spotless brass signage. The lift was also perfectly in keeping, with its manual doors!

No 1, The Mansions – Luxury Serviced Apartments in London

Arriving in our apartment, we were both impressed by the sheer amount of space – a luxury in itself for such a central property. The main door opened into a small reception area, which led off to two bedrooms, a bathroom and the main living area.

Our first port of call was the spacious living area. The space was divided into a comfortable lounge with two small sofas, a dining area and a fully stocked kitchen. The rooms were classically styled, which again complimented the age and architecture of the building. Despite the slight formality of the surroundings, though, the furniture was comfortable and the apartment had a cosy vibe. The apartment was also quite quiet, with little noise considering its location just off a busy main road.

It quickly became apparent that everything needed to make your stay easier had been thought of. The kitchen had a washing machine, fridge, cooker and dishwasher and all of the cupboards and drawers were full of all of the cutlery and crockery you may need. Also welcome was the fact that they included things that you may otherwise forget to purchase, such as washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. A reusable shopping bag was provided for picking up groceries, and the breakfast pack (included for stays of four nights or more) was a nice touch. Maid service is included on Mondays to Fridays.

The apartment also had a flat screen TV, DVD library and free WiFi – this was generally fast enough but the signal was a little low in some spots. Children are well catered for with a kid’s welcome fun pack and children’s DVD library; and, of course, cots and highchairs are available.

The bedrooms were in a similar classic style to the rest of the property. The master bedroom, which Keri nabbed, had a large double bed, spacious wardrobes and a dressing table, along with an en-suite bathroom. I was in the twin room -– although smaller, the high ceilings prevented it from feeling cramped, and they had managed to fit in a wardrobe and bedside table so there was some storage space.

The main bathroom was relatively spacious. The over bath shower was a particurly powerful one, which was a very welcome way to relax after a hard day out and about in the city.

Location and what’s nearby

As noted above, No 1, The Mansions is on Earl’s Court Road. It’s only a two minute walk from Earl’s Court Tube Station which is on the District and Piccadilly lines. Earl’s Court Road itself is full of shops, pubs and restaurants, so it’s really easy to get everything you might need for your stay without having to travel too far. If you do want to venture further afield, Westfield Shopping Centre and Harrods are both close by and the V&A, Science Museum and Natural History Museum are all less that a mile’s walk.

That looks and sounds really nice – definitely more homely than a hotel! Judging by the prices of the smaller apartments, they’re probably better value for money than a hotel of the same price in that area.
