Making memories – travel plans for 2016

travel memories

Every January, once the decorations come down and the holiday festivities end I need something to perk myself up, and what better than starting to plan my next set of travels!

It seems to have become a bit of a January tradition in our house to spend the first few weekends after Christmas looking up destinations we like the sound of and beginning to put together plans for where we might want to visit over the next twelve months.

Looking back I had an amazing 2015 with adventures in Bohol and Palawan in the Philippines, Barcelona, and Cuba (more on that soon!) . Closer to home I went exploring wonderful National Trust properties including Hanbury Hall and Croombe as well as discovering the beauty of Harrogate in Yorkshire.

And as for our global afternoon tea challenge, well me and the fellow ladies what travel have chalked up a few more stops this year, including afternoon tea at the Eastern & Oriental in Penang, Malaysia.

What’s in store for 2016?

So what are my plans for 2016? Well it may only be the second week of the year but already I’ve got three trips booked!

Later this month I’m heading off for a weekend in the New Forest, where we’ll be spending Justin’s birthday at Hotel Terravina as we go exploring the local towns, breathe in that fresh country air and hopefully say hi to some lovely ponies.

Bucharest, Romania

Next on the agenda is a trip to Bucharest, including a day trip to Transylvania to visit Vlad Castle and Peles Castle with TravelMaker Tours. I’m hoping for snow for that really fairytale look, so lets see what the weather brings me. I’ve also discovered the Romanians are big tea drinkers, so as well as having an afternoon tea booked at the Grand Hotel Continental, I’m also looking forward to visiting as many of the local teahouses as I can.

Warsaw, Poland

We know we’ll be doing some other UK travels between now and then, but our next booked trip takes us to Warsaw, Poland in the summer. My annual trip away with the step-kids, we’re looking forward to checking out the highly recommended Copernicus Science Centre, the old town and castle. I’m hoping I might be able to persuade them to come along to a cooking class, but the thing we’re looking forward to experiencing most is a trip to the escape rooms.

We’d never heard of these until we started looking at things to do in the area and wow, they sound amazing! It’s like a real-world Crystal Maze, where you’re locked in a room and have to find clues and solve puzzles in order to escape in a set time. Cannot wait!

Who wouldn’t love exploring these temples?!

Could it be Cambodia?

We’re now in the midst of deciding on our big trip for the year, and it’s currently looking like Cambodia. Now we’ve just got to decide on hotels, but the current plan is to spend three nights in Phnom Penh before heading over to Siem Reap where we’ll base ourselves for the rest of the trip as we head out for days visiting the regions different temples and sights.

So that’s my travel plans so far for 2016, but you never know what life may send your way so lets see what else the year has in store. Have you made any plans yet? Where would you like to go in 2016?

I’m jealous of all your plans, need to start thinking about some time away myself! I’ve been to Warsaw but didn’t get to see a lot as it was for work. I had no idea about the escape rooms, but they sound fun! Cambodia would be another interesting one to add to your travels around Asia.

Do it Ania, you deserve it! At least you’ve got a trip to Stonehenge coming up! 😉

Not done much research about Warsaw yet, so open to any tips and already very excited about Cambodia – hotels are booked and flights will be sorted before the end of the week! 😀

I’m so excited about Cambodia Shikha – I’m almost wishing the year away ha ha! New forest was lovely but sadly wet, but we still had a wonderful time – posts coming soon (well after I’ve finished all my Cuba stories!). If you need to know anything specific in the meantime, drop me an email!

Thanks Emma, hopefully I’ll get them written up soon! The ponies are lovely, but I got a bit close to one and it started staring at me – I slowly started backing away to the car. What a wuss! :s
